Panel 3: A Breakdown of Current Cyber-Security Challenges

Above: panelists The Hon. Gene McLean, Dr. Kenneth Geers, Dr. Eric Jardine, and Paul Hanley discuss current cyber-security challenges at our “Money-Laundering, Cryptocurrency + Cyber-Security” Conference on November 16, 2017 at the Albany Club.

The Honourable Gene McLean: is the Managing Director, Investigation at Cytelligence. He was appointed on March 7, 2014 as a Member of the Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC) and was previously Vice President and Chief Security Officer for TELUS Corporation.

Dr. Kenneth Geers: is a COMODO senior research scientist based in Toronto, and a non-resident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Cyber Statecraft Initiative. In addition, Dr. Geers is a NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence (NATO CCD COE) ambassador, an affiliate with the Digital Society Institute, Berlin, and a visiting professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in Ukraine.

Dr. Eric Jardine: is an Assistant Professor of political science at Virginia Tech, CIGI Fellow, and author of articles on the uses and abuses of the Dark Web, proper measurement of trends in cyber-crime and the sometimes unexpected outcomes that arise from the implementation and use of security technologies.

Paul Hanley: is a Lead Cyber Partner at Deloitte, providing Cyber Risk Services nationally. He directs a team of security professionals that provide security consultancy services to a wide variety of clients. He is a recognized expert in information security, with significant experiences in the field. Paul has also been a CLAS consultant approved by CESG to provide Information Assurance advice to government departments and other organizations, and has advised many regulators and government departments on how to achieve effective cyber-security in the new world of cyber-risk.
