Barbara Siddiqui was born and raised in Midland, Ontario. She completed her B.A and M.Ed. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Barbara has spent 41 years as an elementary school teacher and as a Principal at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). During this time, she acted as an inter-faith and anti-racist advocate by volunteering with organizations like the Canadian Council for Muslim Women, the National Muslim Christian Liaison Committee, and the Association of Progressive Muslims of Ontario/Canada. A highlight during this time included presenting on building bridges to peace at the Parliament of the World Religions in Barcelona, Spain. Since retiring in 2007, Barbara continues to support the education sector by working as an occasional Principal and engaging in her advocacy work.
