On Tuesday May 1, 2018 we hosted our second Breakfast Series workshop titled: “Resilient Cyber Security in an Era of Technological Change: How Threat Intelligence can be used to Create an Early Warning System.”

The workshop hosted esteemed guests and speakers: Vivek Khindria, Director of Information Security at Bell Canada; Serge Bertini, the Country Manager for Canada at CrowdStrike; Nart Villeneuve, Senior Manager at FireEye iSIGHT Intelligence; John Menezes, President & CEO of Stratejm Inc.; Northeastern University’s Jose Sierra and Aliza Lakhani; and moderator Danny Timmins, MNP’s National Cyber Security Lead.

Vivek Khindria: Vivek Khindria, Head of Information Security, accumulated about 20 years experience in the Canadian Financial sector before joining Bell.  This experience included Trading floor design, development environments, security testing and assurance, security strategy and benchmarking, security standards and policy, awareness and education programs and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).  Vivek has a BSc in Physics, and two industry certifications CISM and CISSP.  Vivek is an active member of the global information security organization called Information Security Forum.  Vivek has given numerous conference presentations on topics ranging from Information Security Privileged Identity Frameworks,  Information Security organizational design, Implementing cost conscious security programs.  Currently involved in a number of initiatives including Policy/Standards frameworks, benchmarking, data loss prevention, advanced persistent threat detection, denial of service attack mitigation, security information event management systems, digital forensics and cyber threat intelligence.  Directly involved with both public sector and private sector security strategy and implementation.

John Menezes: President and CEO of Stratejm. He is responsible for setting the company’s strategy, direction and culture. He is a seasoned leader with over 25 years of experience in the Canadian IT industry, including 10 years as Founder, President and CEO of Cyberklix, who at the time of acquisition in May 2010 was recognized as one of Canada’s largest Managed Security Services Providers (MSSP).

Serge Bertini: With over 20 years of Information Technology Management and Security experience working with both Private and Public Sector in Canada, Serge Bertini is the VP and Country Manager for CrowdStrike in Canada. Prior to joining CrowdStrike, he was the VP and GM for the Security Division of HPE Canada. His understanding of the security challenges organizations face on a daily basis, has helped his customers to develop and implement successful business-focused cyber strategies. Previous to HPE, he was the Regional Director for Intel Security/McAfee where he was named McAfee’s Global Sales Regional Manager of the year. Serge has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck NJ. He lives in Toronto with his wife and their three children. He is an avid cyclist and amateur cook and enjoys hosting his family and friends for large dinner parties!

Nart Villeneuve: Senior Manager at FireEye iSIGHT Intelligence where he focuses on telemetry data, malware attacks, botnet activity and the cybercrime underground. Nart has conducted in-depth investigations of both cyber-espionage and cyber-crime networks and continues to analyze attack data and develop threat intelligence with a particular emphasis on using telemetry data to assess threat relevance. Prior to joining FireEye,  Nart’s research at Trend Micro and the University of Toronto led to the discovery and documentation of multiple cyber-espionage networks and in-depth reports on cybercrime networks as well; the resulting papers are available at http://www.nartv.org/writing/.

Jose Sierra, PhD is an Associate Teaching Professor and Associate Director of Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Program at Northeastern University. He earned his PhD at Carlos III University in 2000. Jose’s research areas include Authentication and Access control protocols, mobile payments protection, lightweight cryptographic protocols and IoT security. During his academic career, he has had the opportunity to research and work at several Universities, such as the British Bradford, Westminster, UC Berkeley and MIT.

Aliza Lakhani is CEO and Regional Dean of Northeastern University Toronto. Aliza has significant experience in Financial Services in Canada and the U.S. where she built strategic capacity, generated new revenue streams, expanded into international markets and executed large scale transformations. Most recently, she built and led the Business Development team at the DMZ, a top ranked startup incubator. Under Aliza’s direction, the DMZ tripled annual revenue through corporate partnerships with Fortune 500 companies and expanded into global markets.

Danny Timmins: is MNP’s National Cyber Security Leader and a member of the firm’s Enterprise Risk Services team. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience, Danny is responsible for leading and mentoring an experienced, highly skilled cyber security team in the delivery of customized, client-focused cyber security managed services, product solutions and professional services.
