Emergency Preparedness Series: Cyber Hack

Posted By October 24, 2016 No Comments

Let’s face it – there’s a chance that at some point in your lifetime you’re going to get hacked. If the news that big name corporations like Target and Sony, as well as major government entities like the National Security Agency were hacked doesn’t scare you – then you’re in an alternative cyber-reality. Hackers, security experts, and IT specialists all agree that most of us are extremely vulnerable because not only are hackers becoming more sophisticated, but we don’t take the basic, necessary steps to protect ourselves.

In Canada, the exposure of user’s data from the controversial dating site Ashley Madison, drove home the fact that Canadians and Canadian businesses are vulnerable. Benoit Dupont, network  scientific director of SERENE-RISC reported in 2014, “the majority of breaches happened not because the attackers were especially sophisticated or innovative, but more because systems are so poorly protected and many companies still make the same low-level mistakes people have been talking about for the past 10 years…It’s depressing actually.”

As a part of our Emergency Preparedness series, in this video we show you a few steps you should take in order to deter, manage and recover from a cyber hack.
