The Mackenzie Institute is pleased to host “Canada’s Defence Perspectives 2020-2050: Recapitalization and the Canadian Forces” from March 29-30, 2016 at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa.

The conference will engage military and civilian officials of the Department of National Defence, the defence and security industry, and academia in a series of expert panels to inform recommendations for future Canadian defence planning.

Day One begins with a global threat assessment, followed by a discussion of the role Canada should play in the world and key considerations for a Canadian Strategic Defence Review. Day Two involves conversation of the current material state of the Canadian Forces and future equipment requirements, as well as the future of defence procurement planning.

In the face of a multiplicity of dynamic threats, building a respectable defensive capability is a practical imperative for the protection of Canada while maintaining an influential position in the world.
