For the first time in 20 years, Canadians will be able to have their say about the future of Canada’s defence policy. From now until July 31, the government is inviting members of the public to provide comment during public consultations. This input will help the government make the decisions required to confront new security threats, including those posed by terror groups like ISIS, as well as cyber security threats.
Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan has named a panel to review the findings. It includes: Former Chief of the Defence Staff Ray Henault, former senior public servant Margaret Purdy, former Liberal Defence Minister Bill Graham and Louise Arbour, a former Justice of the Supreme Court and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The review is expected in late 2016 or early 2017.
Canadians can submit feedback online, as well, the government will host six roundtable meetings with various stakeholders across the country.
