The Detroit-Windsor border, between the cities of Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario is a commercial and diplomatic link between USA and Canada. It has a population of about 5,700,000 people.
We spoke to Joseph Comartin, former Leader of the Opposition from 2011-2012 and later Deputy House Speaker from 2012-2015 under the NDP. He is now Canadian Consul General in Detroit. He explained to us some of the challenges and achievements that the Canada-US border crossing has come across throughout history, and offered his insight into emergency preparation at the border.
